Blasda 2013

Blasda is Scotland’s local food feast, which takes place right across the country during Scotland’s Food and Drink fortnight (Sat 7 – Sunday 22nd September).
It’s an opportunity for communities to take charge of, and celebrate their own food culture. In the last few years hundreds of communities have hosted their own events, from local food banquets to street parties to picnics and pot-luck suppers. From Ullapool to Moffat, from Aberdeen to Bute and everywhere in-between people have got organised.

Last year in Glasgow groups got together and hosted a locally-sourced dinner at the Briggait and created a local food map. In Edinburgh there was cheese-tasting, Leith World Kitchen (pictured) , Sunshine on Leith Garden, Granton Community Garden,  plus wild drinks to taste and experiment with from Flora Medica.

Uist’s Blasda was all about cookery demonstrations and food culture. Events vary in size and scale – but all form part of a growing network.

This year’s event is being planned in meetings over the next month. If you’d like to get involved or find out more contact me at mike@fifediet.co.uk
