Calling new farmers

Falkland Estate in Fife is making land available for new farmers.  Parcels of between 5 and 15 acres, on Grade 3.1 land (suitable for vegetable production) will be created on the Estate, which already hosts Pillars of Hercules and the Big Tent. Scotland’s Rural College is offering technical and business support.

The Estate is holding an open day on Saturday June 15th from 11.00 – 14.00 where you will be able to see the land on offer, learn about what’s happening on the Estate, and discuss your business idea.  If you’re interested, make a comment here.

  1. This is great news although sadly I have no capital. Personally I would love to grow heritage/heirloom varieties of veg, have an aquaponic system and a wormery.

  2. you don’t need capital – the land is for rent!

  3. I am interested in coming along – is it an open session? ie do we have to be there are 11?

  4. No – it’s an open event so get there when you can

  5. This sounds really, really interesting. My wee dream, once I’ve finished College (HND Hort at SRUC Ayr), is to start an organic market garden. But, land is the issue.

Is this for local folk? (ie East Coast) I ask as I’m away over in Renfrewshire. I’d be interested though in doing even just the training, even without the plot of land, at this stage.
