throughout Edinburgh to explore how climate change affects you and your organisation and to build a movement to help shape city-wide policy as well as the international climate change talks in December this year.

 

Holyrood event: Land reform – 26 May, Perth

With the government due to respond to their own land reform consultation by the Scottish Parliament’s summer recess – what shape will any reform take, how will it work, and what are the opportunities, challenges and implications of any future legislation? Anyone interested in the future of Scotland’s land and rural issues is invited.

 

University of Aberdeen May Festival – 29-31 May, Aberdeen

In celebration of Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink, the University of Aberdeen May Festival will include a strand of food and drink events. You can, amongst other things, debate the future of our food, visit the Produce Market, and take a foraging walk in Seaton Park.

 

How to Set up a FarmStart day – 30 May, Manchester

Want to grow new growers for your region? The Kindling Trust’s FarmStart Manchester is based on successful models in Canada and the US, and aims to make the route into organic farming easier. On this day, you can learn more about setting up your own farm business incubator.

The annual Permaculture Scotland Gathering with open space for any workshops, discussions, site tours, walks, or kid’s stuff, as well as the AGM.

 

Workshop: Finding (E)quality in Work, Water and Food in the Energy Frontiers: challenges and futures for new technologies – 29 May -1 June, Glasgow

A workshop at Strathclyde University about resolving the current tensions between energy production (such as biofuels) and food production in the global South and in Europe, with contributions from academics, students, workers, community activists and trade unionists from Brazil, Scotland, UK and broader Europe. Holyrood event: Community Empowerment – 10 June, Glasgow

An open debate centred on the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Bill aimed at exploring how community empowerment could transform the face of Scotland’s communities and reduce inequalities.

 

9th European Organic Congress: Designing our Future – 11-13 June, Latvia

Congress organised by IFOAM and others focused on the Organic Regulation Review and developing strategies for building the organic movement in Europe. You can already read a preview of a vision for 2030 coming out of previous meetings that will be build upon during the Congress here.

 

Holyrood event: TTIP – 15 June, Edinburgh

The EU and the US are currently negotiating the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), an agreement that could form the biggest free trade area worldwide and would have major impact on the global and Scottish food system. This event will bring together Scotland’s business community and public sector to discuss what opportunities and threats TTIP represents for Scotland and what can be done to create a public debate about this question.

 

Faculty of Public Health annual conference 23-24 June, Newcastle

The FPH is inviting councillors, consultants and practitioners as well as academics and trainees with an interest in public health to look at ‘The Politics of Healthy Change’.

 

Agroecology / Regenerative Agriculture courses – July – Ragmans Farm, the Forest of Dean

The Columbian/Brazilian teacher Jairo Restrepo Riviera will run a hands-on course on regenerative agriculture from 18 – 22 July, plus two one day courses on 24 July and 25 July.
